However, in this study, the product was less diluted, thus containing a higher concentration of neurotoxin in each injection. A total of 401 subjects, all within the age range of 18 to 65, participated in the randomized, double-blind study, with 75% of the patients in one test group receiving a single dose of Dysport and the remaining 25% receiving a placebo.
The participants in the study were monitored for nine months to assess the efficacy of the more concentrated injection in treating the glabellar lines between the eyebrows. As anticipated, those who received Dysport treatments expressed greater satisfaction with the improvement of fine lines in the treatment areas compared to patients who received the placebo, without any additional recovery time.
But interestingly, the findings also revealed that the higher concentration of the product had a more prolonged effect than the usual concentration, with participants still observing results at the nine-month mark – which is notable as it was previously believed to last four to five months. “We are encouraged that these study results indicate that a single dose of Dysport has a rapid onset and long-lasting effect and is well tolerated,” Dr. John H. Joseph, a board-certified plastic surgeon from Beverly Hills, California, and the investigator of the study, stated in a press release. Botox and Xeomin have also undergone comparable successful trials, demonstrating that a more concentrated dose leads to longer-lasting outcomes.
This could ultimately influence consumers' expenditures. If medical providers take notice of Galderma's findings and dilute Dysport less, it is likely to result in a higher cost for patients as they would be receiving more of the actual product. Nevertheless, longer-lasting results would also likely mean that patients would not need to visit as frequently for maintenance and follow-up injections. Just like any cosmetic treatment, what works for one person might not be the ideal choice for another. A variety of factors – including metabolism, the desired degree of muscle mobility, and accumulated immunity resistance – can play a role in selecting the most suitable toxin for your requirements.
