I am 19 days post-op after a full tummy tuck with muscle repair and liposuction. I'm experiencing significant swelling, as my waist measurement has increased by half an inch compared to a week ago. I'm concerned about the possibility of a seroma, although I don't see any ripple effect. However, when I press on the other side of my belly, I can feel movement. I had my third post-op appointment recently, but the doctor only examined my incision and did not palpate my belly. I have a YouTube video that shows my progress. Thank you in advance for any advice or input.
To determine whether you have a seroma complication, an ultrasound or sonogram can be performed. I recommend discussing these non-invasive tests with your healthcare provider. They can provide valuable information and help determine the best course of action.
It is possible to have a seroma, but a physical examination is necessary to confirm. If you are concerned, I suggest visiting your doctor for an evaluation. You may experience a fluid shift in such cases.
Seroma formation is a common complication after abdominoplasty. Drains are typically left in place until the volume output decreases to prevent seroma. If a seroma forms, needle aspiration in the office can help manage it, and multiple aspirations may be needed for complete resolution.
