After having a Dermapen treatment, I developed red raised bumps all over my face. It was itchy and painful. On the second day, the bumps were still present, so I went back to the clinic and received light treatment. Are these bumps normal, and will they disappear over time?
It is normal to have raised red bumps after microneedling. This procedure, as well as other skin treatments, can trigger a histamine reaction in the skin, resulting in wheals and itching. To prevent this, you can take Benadryl before undergoing another treatment. If Benadryl makes you drowsy, you can use Claritin or another non-sedating antihistamine. It's also possible that the reaction is due to something applied to the skin during pre-treatment, so make sure no additional substances are used after cleansing the skin.
Hello, after undergoing a procedure with numerous needle pricks, it is understandable that your skin may be irritated. However, if you are experiencing itching and raised red bumps, it may indicate an allergic reaction. You should inquire about the lubricant used during the procedure, as you may be allergic to that material. Our practice uses 100% pure hyaluronic acid, which is unlikely to cause a reaction. Alternatively, it could be a skin reaction due to trauma resulting in swelling and itching. You can ask your doctor to try a different lubricant or consider taking diphenhydramine (Benadryl) to reduce or prevent a reaction. Best of luck!
