I recently underwent breast augmentation six days ago, opting for an areolar incision and silicone implants placed sub-muscularly. My surgeon utilized drains, and although the drainage amount decreased over time, I am still experiencing drainage of about 15-200cc three times a day combined. Due to this ongoing drainage, my surgeon decided to leave the drains in, advising me to give it another day. However, the drains are still functioning, and I am concerned if this is a normal occurrence. Has anyone else encountered a similar situation?
If your surgeon decided to place a drain after your breast augmentation, there was likely a valid reason for doing so. Excessive bleeding or concerns about seroma formation when acellular matrix is used are common reasons for drain placement.
