My nose was hit by my dog's head, causing it to bleed heavily. X-rays at the ER showed that it is not displaced, but it was recommended that I see an ENT specialist once the swelling goes down. I had septo/rhinoplasty surgery six years ago, and I believe synthetic cartilage was used to reinforce the structure of my nose. Now, after being hit, the tip of my nose feels numb. I'm concerned about the severity of the situation. Can you provide any insight?
Numbness can occur after a rhinoplasty procedure, but it is typically temporary and self-limiting. I recommend having your nose evaluated by a qualified rhinoplasty specialist within a week or sooner. This is important as, in rare cases, blood clots (hematomas) can form in the nose and require timely drainage to avoid complications.
It is possible that the numbness you're experiencing is due to swelling from the trauma. It would be best for you to be seen in person, preferably by your original surgeon who is familiar with your medical history.
