I have several old scars on my arms, which are around 10 years old. While the scars are no longer raised, they remain very visible. I am wondering if a skin resurfacing procedure could potentially remove or improve the appearance of these scars?
Improving the appearance of white scars can be challenging. While they cannot be removed, there are options to enhance their appearance. "Re-pigmenting" the scars is a time-consuming and potentially costly process, typically done using an Excimer Laser or ReLume device. Another option is lightening the surrounding skin adjacent to the white scars, which can be achieved through laser ablations.
All scars have the potential to be improved, and some can even become nearly invisible. There are various techniques available for scar treatment, including excision, laser therapy, injection treatments, pressure therapy, and others, depending on the specific characteristics of the scar. I recommend scheduling a consultation with your plastic surgeon to discuss the best approach for treating your scar.
