I drank alcohol last night while taking Accutane. Is that bad? I’m on 60 mg of Accutane per day. If this is the only time I drink while on Accutane, will it harm me?
Drinking alcohol while on Accutane should be avoided because this medication is metabolized by the liver. Accutane itself can cause mild liver dysfunction, so consuming alcohol while taking the medication adds an additional burden to the liver. I strongly advise against drinking alcohol while on Accutane. However, I have had patients who ignored this advice without apparent long-term liver damage. While I wouldn't worry about what you have done, I recommend not repeating it. Good luck.
It is not recommended to consume alcohol while taking Isotretinoin. This medication is metabolized by the liver, and regular monitoring of liver function through lab tests is conducted to ensure it can handle the increased workload. It is also important to avoid other medications or drugs that are metabolized by the liver, such as Acetaminophen products and fat-soluble vitamins, especially Vitamin A.
Accutane can raise liver tests if high doses are used, but low-dose Accutane typically has minimal impact. Drinking alcohol frequently while on Accutane can potentially affect liver tests.
It is not recommended to consume alcohol while taking Accutane as both alcohol and Accutane are processed by the liver. If you drank alcohol once while on Accutane, it is unlikely to have caused permanent damage.
