I had an open rhinoplasty 3 weeks ago and I didn’t take many pain killers after surgery. It’s not because there was no pain at all but I could handle it without…I have a high pain tolerance. I had to take antibiotics because of an infection that showed up when my cast came off. Today is exactly 3 weeks post op and I’m feeling a lot of pain on my bridge. Yesterday I took pain killers for the first time and I’m trying not to today…but it hurts. Is this normal?

Thank you for your question about the duration of pain and swelling after rhinoplasty. The recovery time varies depending on the complexity of the surgery. For example, rhinoplasty with controlled nasal bone fractures (osteotomy) may result in more inflammation compared to a procedure focused on nasal tip treatment only. In general, nasal swelling can last from two weeks to two months. To reduce swelling, I recommend performing gentle daily lymphatic drainage massage therapy around the face (including the nose), avoiding sun exposure, and taking pain/inflammation medication as prescribed by your surgeon.
