I'm a 27-year-old female, 5'3" and weigh 135 pounds. I have always had excess fat around my stomach and have never been thin. I underwent tumescent liposuction on my back, flanks, abs, and outer thighs over 2 weeks ago. The certified plastic surgeon said he removed 2200cc of fat. I know it's still early and not my final results, but I don't feel swollen at all, no lumps or firm tissue anywhere, and the bruises are almost gone. My measurements, weight, and pictures still look as if nothing happened, and I didn't feel any smaller on the day of surgery. Should I be concerned?
Thank you for your question! There are three main phases to observe when expecting results after liposuction (and sometimes a fourth phase): Phase 1: The first 14-21 days - During this period, swelling is at its maximum and you may not see significant changes compared to your pre-liposuction appearance. This is the phase you are currently in. Phase 2: Approximately 8 weeks after the procedure - At this stage of your recovery, you may start noticing slight changes in the morning when you wake up, but swelling tends to increase throughout the day. Phase 3: Approximately 16 weeks after the procedure - By this time, you should be seeing the final results of your liposuction procedure. Phase 4: There may be some subtle waxing and waning of swelling that can take up to a year to completely disappear, although most patients don't notice this phase significantly.
Swelling after liposuction typically takes around 6 months to subside. After this period, you can evaluate your results by comparing before and after pictures and taking measurements. Patience is key.
Even if you don't feel swollen, you may still be experiencing swelling and fluid retention after liposuction. It can take up to six months for your skin to fully contract, but most of the swelling should subside within 2-3 months.
The volume of liposuction performed may vary depending on individual needs and goals. 2200 cc is considered a relatively small volume for liposuction of 4 areas. Discuss your concerns with your surgeon to understand the reasoning behind the chosen volume.
