I had breast implants placed 10 years ago, and recently, one breast has become droopy and softer. I consulted my plastic surgeon, who recommended an MRI. The results revealed a ruptured implant that is encapsulated. I have decided to have both implants replaced with a smaller size (currently 480cc). However, due to scheduling conflicts with my surgeon, the surgery is planned for May 10, with the rupture being left for a variable amount of time within the capsule. I would like to know if it is acceptable to wait for this period without any significant risks.
Thank you for your question. Waiting a few months after a rupture of a silicone implant is generally not a problem. As your surgeon mentioned, the majority of the silicone remains contained within the capsule around the implant. However, it is important to note that the longer you wait, the thicker the capsule may become. Keep in mind that there is still a 10-12% chance of the MRI being incorrect, and the implant may actually be intact.
Thank you for your question. In the case of a ruptured implant, the silicone is contained within the surrounding capsule, so waiting until May should not pose any problems. Best of luck with your situation!
Discuss with your surgeon if it's okay to wait until May for your surgery. This decision should be made in consultation with your surgeon.
Thank you for your question. It is a valid one. Considering that the implant is encapsulated and the rupture is contained within the capsule, it should be acceptable to delay surgery for a few months.
