Believe it or not, during the healing process, I have observed several instances where the belly buttons of patients seemed to "move" around on their belly. My theory, although unsupported by concrete evidence, is that uneven muscle tightening or spasms in the abdominal muscles may cause the umbilical stalk to shift as the muscles move from side to side. I have photographic evidence of patients' healing progress, and I have noticed that belly buttons that initially appeared off-center settled into the correct position by 3-4 months, just as they were left during the surgery. If your belly button does not settle in the center, a fairly simple procedure can be done under local anesthesia in your surgeon's office to adjust it. There is no need to worry too much about it.
