I had a tummy tuck (TT) on June 27th and noticed that my drain had stopped collecting on June 28th. I was advised to milk the line and returned on June 29th, where I was informed that I had a hematoma. I have a double homo MTHFR condition and was on Lovenox, which has been discontinued. Since then, I have been getting 150/160ml between 4 pm and 2:30 am. I have been using warm compresses, massaging, milking, and applying cold compresses alternately. Is there anything else I should do? Should I lie flat or sit up? I have an appointment tomorrow on June 30th to discuss options. Will this hematoma ruin my results? I'm extremely upset about it.
Minor hematomas or bruised areas typically don't pose a concern as they will heal over time. Occasionally, needle aspiration may be needed to treat an organized hematoma. Large hematomas or potential ongoing bleeding generally require surgical intervention. It's advisable to consult your surgeon for a follow-up. Based on your photo, it doesn't seem significant, but this is a limited view. Best wishes.
While fluid collections after a tummy tuck are very rare, they can occur. Most cases are not cause for alarm and can be managed through close follow-up with your surgeon. In your case, if there is a blood collection that is not enlarging and you are not experiencing symptoms, it should have minimal effect on your overall outcome. Taking precautions such as limiting turning movements and wearing a binder can help minimize this risk. Additionally, you may need to stop using Lovenox but consider using a sequential compression device for your legs. Regular examination and close monitoring with your doctor are essential.
Lovenox can thin the blood and potentially contribute to postoperative bleeding. It is important to avoid other medications or supplements that may further increase bleeding risks.
