It has been 5 months since I had a tummy tuck, but recently I've experienced extreme swelling and have even resorted to wearing my compression garment again. Is this level of swelling normal at this stage?

Treatment options range from patience for the resolution of swelling, aspiration of fluid accumulation, examination and potential repair of abdominal wall muscle separation, or additional liposuction surgery if necessary. Congratulations on your tummy tuck. "New swelling" experienced months after the procedure is often related to bloating. It could be due to the normal expansion of intra-abdominal contents, such as gas, which can exert pressure on the tightened abdominal wall and create a swollen sensation. Bloating can vary day by day and will subside over time. This type of swelling is unlikely to be related to fluid accumulation or tissue swelling several months after surgery. Losing weight or strengthening the abdominal muscles may help alleviate the sensation.

To reduce swelling after surgery, it is recommended to perform daily lymphatic drainage massage therapy over the abdomen and wear a postoperative girdle from thigh to breasts.
