I am five days post-op following rhinoplasty/septoplasty/turbinate reduction surgery. Breathing through my nose is still very difficult, and I frequently use saline spray. However, I'm wondering if it's safe to use Afrin a few days after surgery. It provides relief, but I have a feeling it might be counterproductive to the healing process. Can anyone provide some insight? Thank you.
When patients experience similar issues after undergoing rhinoplasty or septoplasty, I typically recommend increasing saline rinses instead of using Afrin nasal spray. However, it is important to consult with your plastic surgeon to ensure that this is appropriate for your situation.
Hello, After rhinoplasty, I typically recommend using Afrin to alleviate congestion, but I advise not using it for more than five days. I hope this information is helpful.
Afrin is not recommended for use after nasal surgery. Saline intranasal sprays are preferred for moisturizing the nose, especially in dry or high-altitude areas. Afrin may be used during flights to decompress nasal passages during take-offs and landings.
Moisturize your nostrils with Ayr saline gel or vaseline at night and use a q-tip to line the nostril for moisture during recovery.
