I had liposuction on my flanks, along with a circumferential tummy tuck and fat transfer to my buttocks. I've been draining approximately 75cc of fluid per 24-hour period. The fluid appears yellowish and sometimes even orange, without any signs of blood. It has been 22 days since the surgery, and I'm wondering how long the drains can remain in place without complications.

Regarding the time limit for keeping a drain in place, it is typically determined by the stability of the suture holding the drain. If the drainage remains above the threshold amount (usually 30cc/day for most surgeons), the drain will usually stay in place. At this point, you can discuss with your surgeon the possibility of sclerosis, which involves injecting substances like betadine, tetracycline, or alcohol (which may cause discomfort) to encourage the pocket to seal itself off.
