I had a tummy tuck about four weeks ago, and I've been to see my doctor regarding some concerns. However, he won't remove the stitches from my belly button for another two weeks. When I called about the pain and an open, oozing area, the response I received was that I'm overreacting. Please take a look at the pictures.

Upon reviewing your photos, it appears that you have an area of necrosis, where part of the skin lining your belly button has likely experienced cell death. The body responds by depositing fibrin, a protein glue that creates the yellowish substance visible in the picture. Although it may seem concerning, the surrounding skin usually grows over this area, leading to a favorable outcome. To aid in the healing process, I would recommend washing the area daily with soap and water in the shower. Applying a small amount of Vaseline on a cotton ball and securing it with a band-aid can also be beneficial. Your surgeon may have their preferred methods, so I recommend following their advice for optimal healing and results.

Dear, Based on the photo you provided, it appears that the belly button is showing signs of necrosis, particularly at the 6 o'clock position, and has darkened. Although this is not a common occurrence, it can happen when the belly button experiences inadequate circulation or infection. With diligent local wound care, it should heal. Stitches that are no longer serving a purpose can be removed. Your body will likely heal fine, but if an ugly scar develops over time, contact your plastic surgeon for further assistance.
