I underwent a breast revision with a lift 3 1/2 weeks ago, and at the 2-week mark, I noticed two small "holes" on my breast along the vertical incision line. Since my doctor is located 4 hours away, I sent them pictures and they prescribed antibiotics and a topical ointment, which I have been using for about 8 days. They also instructed me to trim the exposed stitch, which I did 5 days ago. However, I haven't seen much improvement and I am becoming increasingly worried. What else can I do? I have been keeping the area exposed to air, cleaning it, and keeping it dry whenever possible.
Thank you for your question regarding your breast augmentation. The only solution for spitting sutures is their removal. Removing the sutures will reduce inflammation and the associated drainage. Considering the distance you have to travel, it would be best to return to your surgeon for suture removal. If that is not possible, you can reach out to surgeons near you to inquire if they can assist you. Please note that you may be charged a fee by these surgeons, as your own surgeon will not charge you. I understand that the journey may seem lengthy, but it may be worth the time. I hope this information helps. Best wishes.
I would recommend revisiting your physician to have the spitting stitches removed. It would be best to schedule a follow-up appointment a few weeks later to ensure all affected sutures are taken care of. Best wishes!
Buried sutures that work their way to the surface are known as "spitting." Keeping the area clean is usually sufficient, and these sutures typically do not affect the long-term outcome of the scar.
