I’m 6 weeks post op and my left breast has a lot of rippling. At first I could only feel it but now I can see it. I’m 110 lbs so I know I didn’t have a lot of extra skin for the implants to fill out but I wonder if the rippling will go away or if it’s permanent. If I need to have them redone, will there be a cost or will the warranty cover it? Thank you.
Hi, it's surprising, but I've actually encountered several cases where belly buttons seem to shift during the healing process. My theory, although unsupported by concrete evidence, is that uneven muscle tightening or spasms in the abdominal muscles may cause the umbilical stalk to move as the muscles shift from side to side. I have photographic evidence showing belly buttons off-center during healing, which ultimately settle into the correct position by 3-4 months. If your belly button doesn't settle in the center, a simple procedure can be done in your surgeon's office under local anesthesia to adjust it. There's no need to worry too much about it. I've included a link to a blog post from 2012 below, which includes a video illustrating the changes that occur over time after a tummy tuck. Best of luck!
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, rippling tends to become more noticeable over time. Switching from over to under the muscle placement may help. Another option is using ADM (acellular dermal matrix), a natural dermal substitute that can thicken the soft tissue where rippling occurs and reduce the visibility of your implants. I hope this information is helpful! Good luck.
If you have little tissue covering the implant, rippling may not go away. Placing the implant behind the muscle or considering fat transfers or dermal grafts can minimize rippling. Discussing your concerns with your surgeon is recommended.
Rippling of breast implants is related to implant placement rather than frame or skin characteristics. Revision surgery, such as placing implants under the pectoral muscles or using Alloderm Film, can help avoid rippling and achieve a more natural look.
