Hello doctors, I shaved my head with a razor 11 months after having an FUE hair transplant. The front part, where the transplant was done, looks fine, but I noticed scars in the donor area (photos attached). Should I be worried about this? How can I get rid of them? Please help.
FUE harvesting is often misrepresented by doctors who claim it to be a 'scarless' surgery. However, if you cut or shave your hair short, FUE harvesting of grafts can result in a 'moth-eaten' appearance due to the non-regrowth of the hairs harvested from the donor area. Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-surgical treatment that can help conceal the scars from an FUE procedure.
It is normal to have visible marks from FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) when shaving your hair with a razor. If desired, you can consider scalp camouflage, also known as Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP), which can help conceal these marks.
There is no need for concern unless you consistently shave your scalp like in the picture you posted. If that is the case, I recommend consulting with a clinic that provides scalp micropigmentation (SMP), such as ours.
Consulting with a surgeon who is a member of ISHRS.org can provide an in-office evaluation for scalp micropigment tattooing to camouflage scars.
