I had a dual plane breast augmentation on August 9th. Since August 11th, I've been experiencing sharp pain on the bottom inside of my right breast. The pain goes away when I rest and don't move much. It started after my car was shaken a bit on the 11th. I'm a bit concerned. I'm still unable to wake up on my own from bed. How long should I refrain from exercising and continue wearing the post-operative bra? I was advised to listen to my body and continue these precautions for one month. Thank you.
It is expected to have pain in the specific area where the muscle was cut two days after surgery. Doing too much can compromise your outcome. After breast implant surgery, I recommend taking one week off from work. At that point, we remove the stitches and teach patients the implant massage technique. We suggest performing the massage five times per day and avoiding bras for one month. Patients can return to work but should refrain from engaging in strenuous activities. At one month, patients can start wearing a soft cup bra without underwire and begin low-impact cardio exercises. By two months, they can wear an underwire bra and participate in more vigorous physical activities. Breast massage should continue daily, but only once per day.
Sharp, stabbing pain is common for breast augmentation patients due to severed nerves during surgery. It should improve as your body heals. If the pain becomes intolerable or affects your sleep, you can consult with your surgeon for pain medication.
If you are experiencing pain, it is recommended to consult your plastic surgeon for a thorough examination and personalized recommendations.
Increased pain or swelling should be reported to the plastic surgeon for evaluation. Exercise and surgical garment instructions may vary, but lifting over 15 pounds and wearing a compression bra for 4 weeks are advised.
