Three months ago, I underwent extensive rhinoplasty to address various concerns with my nose. Since then, I have noticed that whenever my nose is bumped, especially in an upward direction from under my nose, I experience intense pain that seems disproportionate to the event. Is this normal? Additionally, I am unable to pick the inside of the tip of my nose anymore. Is this a normal part of the healing process? Thank you.

I have observed this in a few patients over the years, and I can assure you with 99.9% certainty that it will go away. However, I cannot provide a specific timeframe for when it will resolve. I suggest consulting your surgeon and discussing the possibility of taking a 4 or 5-day course of anti-inflammatories to see if it helps. Regarding picking your nose, changes to the outside of the nose can affect the inside as well. Therefore, you may need to use your pinkies for picking.

It is not uncommon to experience sensitivity to minor trauma even three months after rhinoplasty. I advise against picking or attempting to pick your nose following the procedure. Consult with your surgeon for further guidance.

During the initial healing process after nasal surgery, the nasal tip can be extremely sensitive to temperature and touch due to swelling. It is not uncommon to experience this sensation even three months after surgery. In some cases, it may take up to a year for the sensitivity to resolve.
