I am currently 10 days post-op from a procedure, and I've noticed a vertical crease above and within my belly button. My abdomen and sides still feel numb, indicating that there is still swelling. I also still have one drain inside me. Will the vertical crease disappear once the swelling subsides? Additionally, I would like to know if my belly button appears normal.
This could either be a tension line resulting from the central suture, which will likely improve over time, or it could be excess skin in the middle, which won't reduce by itself. It's advisable not to take any action at this moment. Allow six months to pass before discussing potential additional surgery with your doctor. The likely surgical procedure would involve removing the excess skin from the center, leaving a vertical scar, which may not be desirable to you.
This post-operative appearance is unusual. It seems that you may have experienced significant weight loss and have excess skin in the horizontal direction. If this does not resolve on its own, you may need to consider a vertical excision of tissue. Best of luck.
Swelling is normal three weeks after surgery, and it may take at least three months to evaluate the final result. Pre-operative photos showing different angles would be helpful for a more specific recommendation.
Vertical laxity and excess skin may require additional procedures, such as a "vertical TT" with an added vertical incision, in addition to a standard tummy tuck. An evaluation with a surgeon would be helpful.
