I'm six weeks into my recovery from a tummy tuck and breast augmentation surgery. Since the tummy tuck, I've been experiencing persistent pain in the upper right section of my abdomen. It exacerbates when I cough, sneeze, stand, or walk. During my four-week follow-up visit, where I felt slightly better, my plastic surgeon advised me to slowly resume running (as I have been a long-time runner). However, attempting to run still causes substantial abdominal pain, so I've stuck with the elliptical machine. But now, I notice the pain worsening, coupled with minor swelling above my belly button. Is this a common postoperative occurrence, or have I possibly injured something or made it worse? I'm genuinely worried.
It may be possible that you're starting your exercise routine too aggressively. Starting any intense exercise regimen just four weeks after surgery is early. I would advise you to consult with your plastic surgeon and discuss your concerns. It might be best to give your body another month of healing before gradually advancing your exercise routine.
