Dear Ms., Thank you for your questions. Currently, there is no scientific evidence to support the use of supplemental protein for enhancing recovery from surgery, unless you have had gastric bypass or abnormally low preoperative protein levels. Factors such as abnormally low preoperative protein levels, smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, and steroid use can negatively affect postoperative healing. I suggest scheduling consultative appointments with different experienced plastic surgeons.

I do not recommend gaining weight specifically for the BBL procedure for any of my patients. As for needing supplemental protein, I only recommend it if your protein levels are low, such as in the case of significant weight loss (80 or more pounds) within the last 6 months to a year. Gaining weight will not improve surgical results and is generally not beneficial for overall health. Protein combined with vitamin C can support postoperative recovery.
