Is it normal for the stomach to feel rock hard after a Tummy Tuck? Some parts of my stomach feel soft while others feel hard, but the hardness is decreasing each day. Is this part of the normal healing process?
Thank you for your excellent question, brandydeja18. After a tummy tuck surgery with or without liposuction, the body undergoes a significant healing process. Small fluid or blood collections that occur after surgery are consolidated and absorbed by your body. New vessels and healing scar tissue are formed and remodeled. Swelling of damaged cells fluctuates in response to your activity level. All of these factors can contribute to firm areas where tissues are healing. In most cases, this healing process resolves within 3 months, although it can take up to 6 months or even a year in rare cases.
Post-surgery, it's typical for your stomach to feel hard. This is due to the muscle tightening and normal surgical swelling. Wear your compression garment to aid in healing.
It's challenging to provide an accurate answer to your question without knowing when you had your surgery. Assuming it was recent, the hardness you're experiencing in your stomach could be due to muscle spasms from the diastasis recti repair. If the surgery was some time ago, you might be dealing with fat necrosis. It's best to schedule a follow-up with your surgeon to clarify this. Wishing you all the best!
Swelling and muscle tightening can make the abdomen feel hard after surgery. However, it is important to be cautious and consult with the surgeon if there are concerns about abnormal hardness or other symptoms.
